We Have An Alien!

Or, really, a baby! I just can’t keep it in anymore!

Christine and I are still very nervous, but we are so thankful for our little lime. (At least that’s how big BabyCenter says it is.)

We went to the 12-week ultrasound this past Tuesday, and I have to tell you, as a Dad that never got to see an ultrasound before, it was truly amazing. I saw the legs moving, the arms moving and the little body floating around – so cool!

For those that don’t know, our first pregnancy last year only lasted 11 short weeks. By the time I was getting used to the idea that we were going to have a little one, it was too late. Following the miscarriage, I did get to see an ultrasound, but the fact that there was nothing left to see coupled with not knowing what to look for, what things look like, and really not being in a good frame of mind, I found myself being so much more in awe of the wonder of life this time around.

Some major differences between our first pregnancy and this one:

1. Morning sickness/nausea – Christine has it. All. Day. Long. During the first pregnancy, she didn’t have any at all. I see this as a promising inconvenience. And it is slowly subsiding, which is great.

2. Mood swings – Not so bad this time. At least not yet. Of course there are times when I’ll get nipped at, but, to be fair, I probably deserve them anyway. First time around, she was up and down a lot. But I also think that has to do with Christine still trying to wrap her mind around being pregnant.

3. Frame of mind – We are hopefully optimistic. First time around, we were excited and felt that God wanted us to have a child, so we told everyone at 8 weeks and were even shopping for baby furniture and other things as early as 10 weeks. This time, we basically have been sitting and doing nothing, praying that our little one is strong enough to make it. We didn’t want to go anywhere and risk complications. We were (are) scared. I was concerned for Christine’s health. And we didn’t want to get our hopes up. We didn’t tell people until, well, now. We were counting down the days until we passed 11 weeks. I kept telling myself, if we can make it to 12 weeks and go to the ultrasound and everything is good, then I can finally relax a little and start enjoying getting ready for a child.

Even though there were major differences between our pregnancies, we are already falling in love with our little alien. And we are so happy.

Baby is doing great – 154BPM and growing strong. Mother is doing well, too. (Minus the nausea)

Here are some pictures of our little one at 12 weeks (Doesn’t the bottom right one make it look like an alien?):
